No it's not. I have a Red Bud tree, and while they are blooming, this isn't it. If you really knew Redbud's you'd realize the tree shape and bark color are all wrong. I've been shooting this particular tree for around 15 years because of it lovely spring color and SPECTACULAR fall color! I know my trees, having worked for Penn State University's Plant Pathology looking at diseases that affect both trees and plants. Also, I've been a member of the Pennsylvania Native Plant Society for years. I've posted this at the Website and so far have gotten around 200 likes, some of them from professional botanists. Just because distance, altitude(2300') and lighting(there was a thunderstorm approaching and it was late evening) are affecting the color in this shot, doesn't make it a different species. As far as tree size goes, how the hell do you know how old this tree is? As far as not showy goes, these mountains are covered with maples in bloom and it looks like fall in spring, as a friend of mine noted. People plant this tree because of it's lovely spring and fall colors. You all do not know what you are talking about.

I went back up to the park today and shot these. They show my approach to the beach and closeups of the tree buds. I then re-shot the tree in question; those are IGMP 2745 and 2746. You know it's the same tree because of the circular charcoal grill that's placed on the right(it's permanently mounted). Threw in some others of the "non-showy" trees along side....I had cropped the pic. Different time of the day(2PM vs 6:30PM, different light, different settings; because of the different light I couldn't duplicate them.....They were way over exposed when I did. Let me say one last thing before I unsubscribe from this....anyone who would try and ID a particular tree without a closeup of the bud/leaf/flower/bark etc., is an idiot. There's a difference between art and "technical" photography. The end.

Dean appears to be on the right path. Your tree is Cercis canadensis (Red Bud Tree) it has showy pink flowers as shown in your picture. Acer rubrum (Red Maple) is quite different and is a much larger tree. Acer is the genus of Maples. The flowers on the red maple are not at all showy as the flowers in your picture.

Nice work fetzler.
