I recently got sick of television and decided that I no longer wanted to watch TV. I discontinued my subscription to the Dish on my roof to direct TV. The bad news is that when I did that I also lost the connection to the Internet that LightRoom was using to send email and photos to friends.

I still have two other connections to the Internet via my ATT connection to the cell phone towers that comes over my home LAN. I can also set up a Personal Hotspot using my iPhone.

I went on YouTube looking for an explanation of how to set up LightRoom to connect to my @Gmail.com account?

They are asking me for things like STMP server and port. I have no idea what that even means??

Please help me. Thank you.

You should prepare yourself to need to export the image files to disk and then manually attach to an email you compose in GMAIL.

For the settings, you can use google = gmail client settings

These two results seem to have the settings you need:

https://www.androidauthority.com/gmail-smtp-774880/

https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7104828?hl=en

You can experiment and see if you can get the ports and POP servers to work. These two references both contain the same values and some options. Try them all or refer to any other options from the return set of links from the google search.

I just export a copy of the finished edit to my desktop and then when I compose the e-mail etc. it is easy to find and attach as a file.

That is what I'm now doing and trying to avoid doing, because it's messy. LR provides a more elegant way. You and I both need help learning how to set it up.

Perhaps the problem is not all of "TV" only what you watch. Maybe branch out in a different direction then Lightroom and the convenience if offers can be used again. Granted a lot of the programs are garbage.

I still have connection to the Internet. There I can find all kinds of interesting and entertaining things to watch while avoiding main stream media.

It's a real pain, but here's what I did:

Open gmail.
In your google security settings, enable 2 step verification
Create a one-time app password for Lightroom in your account
In the section Singing Into Google, pick App Password
You'll need to log into gmail and verify your password
Select app dropdown, choose other and type in Lightroom; then click "Generate"
Copy the the generated password (or write it down)
Open LR, go to menu>File>Email Photo
Go to Email Account Manager
Add the Gmail account (picked from the drop down menu)
In the Credential Settings dialog that pops up, enter your email for both email address and user name, and the gmail app password that you just generated (or wrote down)
Click on Validate to test your settings and access.

I use gmail on my laptop, phone, tablet, and Outlook linked to Gmail using IMAP on my desktop. My master contact list is in Outlook, so if I export directly from LR to Gmail, I either have to know the recipient's email or import the contact list on a regular basis to keep it current.

I find it much easier to export to my computer, open a new email, and copy/paste or drag and drop the files. When I am sharing multiple files I simply post them into DropBox's Photo folder into their own folder, then right click on the folder name to copy the link to that folder, and paste it into an email. It's clean, fast and efficient, and handles multiple files/recipients really well.

At one time I was able to send e-mails directly from Lightroom—until something happened and that no longer worked. I then began exporting to my desktop and attaching the file to the e-mail. That is easy enough, and judging by what Gene51 has explained, what I will continue doing.

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth. Can't help with the gmail light room thing I wanted to explain our house hold. We have an antenna on the roof for broadcast TV. We have comcast/infinity for internet only with which we utilize our gmail accounts. And finally, we recently added a Roku streaming device which was a one time purchase. So far we have only subscribed to Britbox. We can watch most BBC shows whenever we want.

I intend to do something similar. I have had some health issues and I'm still dealing with my income tax. I hired someone to do my taxes and will hire someone to install the antenna and run the cables. I have reached the age (81) where I hire people to avoid aggravation. Up until now I did everything myself, no more. It's time to start spending some of the money I have been saving.

This is what I do also , from my pictures library. You could create a separate folder just for the photos you want to attach to your email. If you think your done sending the photo out, delete the extra.

Sounds like an export function. File to gmail is easy enough with Windows.
