Your message made me interested in this 1985 USS Saratoga visit. There is another detail to it. This visit was delayed due to the operation involving the carrier’s aircraft in forcing Egyptian charter flight with hijackers of the cruise liner Achille Lauro to land in Sicily, were they were arrested. This fact probably provide more time for those Italian pros to arrive to greet the seamen.
