Nice capture Brent. Great timing too but contests are strange. Depends on category entered, contest rules and most of all the judges. I feel your image is an excellent presentation which creates emotion for the viewer. That won’t hurt! Good luck to you.

I think it's a fine pic, Brent. Contests are subjective, however...be ready to click your heels or get your a$$ kicked down the road. ;0)

Yup, great timing, but I don’t think the judges will count that. Color composition interest etc are what they look for. Entitled “Serendipity,” it might win!

I hear ya about judges........I entered what I thought was a wonderful photo into the Orange County Fair contest and the photo didn't even get accepted let alone get some kind of award. I entered the same photo into my community contest and it won first place. It's all about what the judges like or don't like.

It's all about the BIAS of judges. In reality they should not have any BUT they do. Sad.

...there's no situation in judging where there isn't bias. It's built-in to every human, and due to differing experiences all over the map. It's just the way it is. I judge pageantry events and the only thing that reins-in our personal likes and dislikes are criteria the adjudicator *tries* to adhere to...it's really hard. There may be criteria that different judging/jurying events demand, but, still, what remains is the human making a decision. <shrug>

I am also wondering if this is a composite. If it is a single image then it is really great.

When I view photo contests I've tried to put myself in the place of a judge.......it can be very difficult because there are so many wonderful photographs. I wouldn't want to be a judge. There are obvious things like for example "out of focus" or "horizon not horizontal" or HDR "overcooked" that would be easy to judge. The difficult part would be judging the creative aspect in my opinion. Being an artist first I might not be the best judge.........or maybe I would be?!?!? lol

I agree with you 100%. All judges are bias. I also agree with you "It's built-in to every human, and due to differing experiences all over the map." Humans are not robots.
