I don't want to "hijack" this topic or, if this should be reposted as a separate question, that's fine, but here's what I'D like to know.

I have the V600. There are THREE pieces of scanning software, Epson Scan, EpsonScan 2 and EasyScan. What is the difference, which should I be using and for what?

Operating system?

Try all. Use what you like. Epson Scan supports Digital ICE. Epson Scan 2 does not. Neither does Easy Scan.

When you upgrade to 10.15 or 11.2, Epson Scan dies (It’s 32-bit code).

My new laptop runs 11.6 ("Big Sur"), haven't installed the software on it, yet. So far, I seem to like Epson Scan 2, the best.

Is it normal for the scan to NOT start until I tap the trackpad?

Yes, if trackpad is set to “tap to click” and cursor is over the Scan button.

I meant “move” the cursor by “swiping”.

Epson Scan 2 is the new 64-bit driver that one must use on MacOS 10.15.7 or 11.2.3. Epson Scan runs on Windows and older MacOS systems. I keep an external startup drive running MacOS 10.14, just to run my scanner with Epson Scan, which has dust removal features not in Epson Scan 2.

That explains that that. I did wonder if he was using a MAC. I have a brand new V850 PRO and it came with a bunch of software but I DL'd and used the latest Win 10 drivers from Epson. Works fine once I figured out the mechanical and software differences from my V500 PHOTO Scanner. Epson Scan in Professional Mode is what I usually use. I have not scanned any 8x10" films yet, just 35mm and 6cm negatives so far. And I have a lot of 4x5" Negatives and Transparencies to do as well. We are leaving the old V500 hooked up to our other computer for reflected light copy.
