Nice set showing the town where I was born. I can't say that it brings back fond memories; we moved to Joplin when I was 6 weeks old.

Just got up, now catching up on responses.

DougS, thanks for your nice comment. I agree that the boat appears ready to sink. I do have an image of it from closer up: DSC_0225 by David Casteel, on Flickr. Where is the ferry in Arkansas?

yssirk123, thank you very much! I’m glad you liked it.

blacks2, thanks for the 3 thumbs up! Nice to see you.

Earnest, thank you, too. I’m glad you liked it.

nervous2, thank you for coming. I’m sorry that your camera pooped out on you, but happy that I was able to provide images you enjoyed. You’re very welcome—I like to share.

TheShoe (unusual name), thanks a lot. My dad was born in Joplin, Missouri (in 1908).

Excellent and interesting set David, especially like the riverboat.

Years ago we visited Hannibal. We stayed at the Becky Thatcher motel. I remember the knotty pine walls. I had a fish sandwich for lunch. It was called "the Huck Finn". Thanks for the images.

David, the Peel ferry is on Bull Shoals Lake, southeast of Branson, MO. North Northwest of Yellville, AR, Northeast of Harrison. Approximately 1 mile south of the Missouri border. Interesting, and pretty ride.

Thank you. I've been in that area several times, used to have a TimeShare in Branson, but I never took that ferry. I have ridden the (now defunct) Guion ferry across the White River, the border between Stone and Izard Counties, Arkansas (in the 1950s).

We have ridden several of the old ferries (as you said, most now defunct); some used the river current for propulsion! The Guion, and the Black River, in particular. As a child, we rode several others with our parents.
Dorena-Hickman Ferry, in Southeast Missouri is a fairly long trip, and is a toll ferry. It takes 10-20 minutes to cross the Mississippi River.
Came across this web site, I think you may find interesting, https://bridgehunter.com/category/tag/ferry/
I am going to add it to my 'trip planning' folder. Probably the best we have been on is the Alaska Marine Highway...

My mom's parents lived at Pleasant Grove, Arkansas, which is in Stone Co. When I was a child my parents and I often visited my grandparents there. The road to Guion takes off from AR-14 about halfway between Pleasant Grove and Mountain View (country seat). I was probably a teenager when I visited the ferry with some of my relatives. (All of my relatives in Stone Co. are now gone.)
