Hannibal, Missouri

In 2011 and 2014 my auto trips took me through Hannibal, Missouri. Hannibal is noted as the home of the fictional characters Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn in the novels by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens). In 2011 I had more time there, and took a cruise of the Mississippi River on the steamboat Mark Twain. My visit in 2014 was much shorter. This set includes photo from both drives.

Very nice photos and writeup of a piece of Americana, Dean. There is a great biography of Mark Train simple called "Mark Twain" by Ron Powers. Fascinating life story of a fascinating man. Available on Kindle.

Hannibal, MO was the boyhood home of Mark Twain. I've got a picture of it we took when traveling through many years ago.

ragon, yes, it was. No doubt why his books were based there.

jederick, so nice to see you. I confess that I went back this week and redid a lot of the PP on those photos.

Excellent set. The Pusher Boats (8th one down), always looked to me like they are in danger of sinking; top heavy and sides barely above the waterline. They are also used for ferries, the last ferry in Arkansas, uses one (well, they do have a 'spare').

Hannibal, Missouri br br In 2011 and 2014 my auto... (show quote)

Brings back fond memories--both of reading as a youth and of a brief visit once. We were on a tour that stopped at Hannibal and I got out eager to record that portion of our trip photographically. Took two shots and the battery on my new Nikon D70s pooped out. The other battery lay useless in my bag as I had not had time to recharge it. Thus, I enjoyed your shots even more. Thanks for posting.
