I just rented a Nikon 500mm F/4E and 1.4 teleconverter from Borrowlenses. The lens was in excellent condition. Ask for the first time renter discount of 20%. It came out less expensive than LensRental. My usual lens is a Tamron 150-600 G2. The Nikon was quite an upgrade in quality even at 700mm and F5.6 with the teleconverter on. I found the 500 to be handholdable, but most of the time used a monopod.

This really looks like a job for the Olympus 150-400mm ( there are teleconverters too. If you are luck enough to find one available along with an Olympus body. Your back will thank you.
The OP is a Nikon shooter.

lensrentals.com has gotten praise in the past. I have no experience with them, but have seen postings to that effect.
What they said! Easy to do business with.
Thanks to one & all for your valuable expertise.
