Applicable to a lot of things other than photography too.

As too many dead pilots could attest to.

Not necessarily! I do remember, back in the good old film days, turning up on site with all the gear and NO film And yes I once was much much younger than I am now.

When I go on trips, I always make a packing list and check everything off... I also lay out items. Lately, I seem to forget to take a second camera battery for day or afternoon outings.

Yes, batteries! I always have enough in the backpack but on several occasions have hiked maybe one or two hundred yards (close enough to not lose contact with my equipment), started shooting and almost immediately run out of battery power -- have to hike back, and then back! Very irritating. I always try to remember to stick an extra battery in a pocket before heading out. As someone else said, good to stash an extra SD card in a wallet also.

I've never forgotten the camera, but just about anything else that could be forgotten at one time or another!

This is an important time to have your cellphone. You can call up someone to bring you the camera. Wait! what??
Just use your cell phone camera

The way he laid out his equipment on a rock outcrop (esp the lens), pretty soon he won't have to worry about the camera. He won't have any lens left.

Do you use off road tires on those SD cars?
