I've used them for years and always appreciate the responsive, helpful and personal assistance they provide.

Are you serious? It is not a good idea to let anyone remotely take control of your computer, ever.

I've had both Apple and Adobe take over my computer and solve problems I couldn't figure out myself. I could see every thing they were doing.

Incorrect, it is the best way to fix a computer problem using a trusted source such as HP, Carbonite, and you son.
Standard practice, been doing it for years

Ok if you know them I guess. Just watch out for the unsolicited phone call saying they are from Microsoft and you have a virus that they can connect to your computer to fix.

I would only do it if I call them.

I agree with you. Adobe got on my computer yesterday and solved a problem in no time. The tech really knew his stuff.

Do not confuse cloud storage with cloud backup.

I talked to them recently. The old, great, locally owned Maine company sold to or was acquired by a large, I think, Canadian firm. That is why the IOS app was discontinued. I still use them and as of this morning, have not had any problems.

Best,

Perhaps, but it is a slippery slope. Seems our elite masters are taking a page from the playbook of the CCP - and as such cannot be trusted to do what you might think is the "right" thing.

In his book "We Have Been Harmonized" author Kai Stritmatter goes into detail as to how the Chinese have, rather successfully, turned the population (well, most) into drones without critical thinking capacity via deep and wide propaganda, including "erasing" things that make the party look bad. With that mentality, it is not a big leap to foresee a time when those in charge at Insta or Flickr or whomever deem photos of guns, or damage done by friends, or anything that might "upset the apple cart" are no longer acceptable and just delete them - throw them down the "memory hole".

The book is well worth a read.

I second this opinion. This book is very worthwhile reading and quite illuminating.

I am in my my second or third week of trying to contact Carbonite re the file backup they allegedly provide. When I open Carbo and try to restore I get a message saying Restore Disabled. The message is on the screen for a split second and then disappears but after awhile it reappears again for less than a second which is not long enough to read the message about what they are trying to say.

My emails have gone unanswered, they do not respond to chat requests and I cannot find a telephone number. It appears I am in some kind of a communications loop with them and go from Support to Contact Us to no response and then back to Support to repeat the cycle over and over. I cannot even reach their Sales group.

i have used them for years and in the past, whenever I have needed support, they responded very well. I am wondering if they have gone out of business. Also, does anyone have any suggestions for a legitimate efficient cloud backup service? I will probably drop Carbonite as soon as I can investigate a recommended alternative.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide---also beware of Carbo.

This may partly answer your question; merging problems that will be solved:

"We're excited to announce that Carbonite has been acquired by OpenText. Together, we will strengthen cyber resilience by offering total endpoint protection and data recovery for customers of all sizes. Read the press release." Google the subject

Wishing you continued Good luck soda pop. I tend to lean towards the wisdom of P T Barnum and proverbs 21:20 KJV.

Dropped carbonate 3+ years ago when I subscribed to MS office that included a TB of storage. Easy as pie. Deliver all my real estate photos to clients with a one drive link to the folder.

Luck is not needed, just common sense
