I can't do that, Jack. I ALWAYS download photos immediately after getting home. Too excited to do anything else. That doesn't mean I don't miss something on the first go through. My wife and I came home yesterday with over 700 photos from a long day in the heat and humidity. Yes, still in Florida and even in January there are some uncomfortable days. But I knew I had some great photos, that's what makes it all worthwhile.

I was going through some unprocessed photos taken taken earlier this month, I save everything, when I found this shot. A little bit of processing later I discovered I had accidently taken three shots of my first Western Bluebird.

Hi Curmduge... I am tickled you got a new First Bird! AND an especially pretty bird to boot! I do the same things you do & really get surprised at what is on the card! Lately I get a ton of other birds zipping through my pic that I never saw through the viewfinder. Some make it better... lol some don't!

Are Bluebirds pretty rare in your area? I saw a few at first years ago but now they seem to be flocking into my suet feeders! Just this week 8 males & females mob the suet...Hope I get them to use a nest box this year!

I always try & get a shot of a far off bird to help identify it many are not worth posting here but I keep them anyway. Later I go in & try to improve them & crop them etc. Lots more fun than late night TV! Congrats on some nice pics of beautiful birds! WAlt

Thank you for looking. Bluebirds are not common in the neighborhood but relatively so in the surrounding area. We are on the edge of both Eastern and Western Bluebird ranges and and have to be careful in our ID

I always download when I come back from a shoot. When wandering the neighborhood with the Ghost Dog I seldom take more than 8 or 10 shots really unimportant shots. Those I download and cull every 4 or 5 days.

On day I was shooting an Eastern Bluebird in continuous mode. In one picture a dragonfly in mid air was in front of the bird and in the next picture the bird was holding the dragonfly in its beak.

Congrats! Turned out really well.
I am sure this happens to every photographer. All the more reason to keep on shooting in order not to miss anything in life. . . .
