I was going through some unprocessed photos taken taken earlier this month, I save everything, when I found this shot. A little bit of processing later I discovered I had accidently taken three shots of my first Western Bluebird.

Good catch! I often find things I didn't know were there when I shot it, but nothing so cool as the first sighting for a bird. I usually get photobombed by insects in my flower pics.

Don't you love it when that happens. There have been a couple of times I took a photo of a bird that I looked at years later only to realize that it is a bird I didn't have on my life list. I got a couple of lifers that way.

No, no, no, Jack. You always tell that it was exactly as you planned.

Thanks for looking and commenting. Usually I just end up with out of focus blobs.

I often take pictures of out of range birds just so I can try to identify them later and as in this case don't look at them. I was lucky this time.

Discovering what actually appeared on the memory card is usually my first step in bird shots, Jack (LOL).

Me too Mike. This was a potpourri of shots taken around the neighborhood over a period of several days. I often don't download the card, unless there is something special on it, for several days. In this case I didn't know there was anything special.

Hi Curmduge... I am tickled you got a new First Bird! AND an especially pretty bird to boot! I do the same things you do & really get surprised at what is on the card! Lately I get a ton of other birds zipping through my pic that I never saw through the viewfinder. Some make it better... lol some don't!

Are Bluebirds pretty rare in your area? I saw a few at first years ago but now they seem to be flocking into my suet feeders! Just this week 8 males & females mob the suet...Hope I get them to use a nest box this year!

I always try & get a shot of a far off bird to help identify it many are not worth posting here but I keep them anyway. Later I go in & try to improve them & crop them etc. Lots more fun than late night TV! Congrats on some nice pics of beautiful birds! WAlt
