Love the detail in its eyes.

This is a preserved Hoover Fly. They mimic a bee or wasp which they evolved as a form of defense albeit not a great one. I've included an image of one that I took in the backyard on a much warmer day past to provide a view of what they look like going about their day. The red in the picture is our plastic gas can that we keep under the open shead.
Nice shots indeed. Did not know this insect before today. Never heard of it. Thanks for sharing, and very good shots.
Thanks,
Boone.

Thanks ever so much. They look like little bees and they are so good at it that unless they are looked at very close one would never know differently. They are harmless and they do not spread illness and disease like house flies do which are quite nasty.

Boone, they can be found across the country and in many parts of the world. Here's an interesting link that describes them with pictures along with interesting facts.

Thanks for the link, I went there and read most of the facts about these insects. Now I will look closer the next time I decide to shoot photos of bees. Maybe, I even have some in my files. (Photos of Bees)
Very interesting indeed. I have heard the term "Hoverflies" but never really knew what it meant!!!!
