I think the orchid shot is great also. Like the light balance. And the darker background. If you are looking for in depth critiques there are other venues here for that. But you might get more than you are looking for.

Way cool and be careful for this is a very addictive hobby. To get more out of your gear you can get a set of extension tubes new for around $20 and mount your 50mm lens on them to shoot macro photography (manual focus) or for a bit more extension tubes that communicate for autofocus.

For about $10 or so you can get a 'reversing ring' which allows you to mount your 50mm lens backwards on the camera and you will get about 1.5X magnification for even closer macro. Mount that on the extension tubes and you will be over 3X magnification. Now that's some real fun...!!

Hello,

This is my first time posting anything here besides my intro looong time ago. I picked up photography as a hobby and to help relax myself from med school. I only have a 50mm f1.4 lens. All my gear are gifted to me and I am in no position to acquire gear right now. I'll probably start posting more here as time goes on.

Not that I am excusing my newbieness but I just learned how to physically balance the "exposure triangle" and it generally works. I'm having fun so far.

Please critique.

This first photo is heavily cropped but the whole picture did not feel very interesting. As for post processing, I tried to smooth out the sun and sharpen the silhouette of the people. That's pretty much all I did.

The second photo, is straight out of the camera besides turning the DNG to JPG.

The third photo is straight out of the camera if I am not mistaken.

The last photo is resized because I posted it in another forum but no other edits.

That's all for now!

Nice first set. I believe you will come to love your “nifty fifty” lens.

Great photos and demonstrating you know what your doing, Voyance. If you only have one lens, your really fast nifty-fifty is a good one to have. Don't sell it.

Nice set. You have an eye for light detail. First please check "Store Original" when posteingimages so we may see all!

#1 I suggest re-thinking this type of image. Find a point of interest or action and focus on that.
#2 and 3 I suggest cropping out the distracting elements. Think of this while framing the shot-try not to rely on post processing to make your image good.
#4 ?

Thanx for sharing.

Photography is a great hobby. If you do it right you can make a lot of money. On the weekends I was a wedding photographer. I worked in the aerospace industry five days a week. Made good money but some weekends I made more than I did all week.

Excellent tries. I will offer some "observations" rather than critique. Maybe another way of perception or some ideas you may have overlooked. Okay?

Photo 1. I like very much. Thank you for not putting the sun in the dead center, and not cutting the frame in half with the horizon. I like the color. Very warm and pleasant. The soft focus is interesting. I don't know what to think about the silhouettes. I can't decide if they are interesting or take away attention from the sun and reflection. Very good attempt.

Photo 2. Sorry, this is the weakest of the group. Many things going on here. First; is your subject the flower or the wall. I bet it's the flower, but you have way too much light on the wall. It demands all the attention or is a huge distraction. Bring the subject away from the background (wall). The flower appears out of focus? I can see the texture on the drywall better than the flower. The items in the background are distracting. They have no purpose in the frame. Partial wall photo frames and table clutter are totally out of place, add nothing to the photo and take away spoil the scene. Perhaps you could have controlled this with depth of field/another angle of framing the photo/better light control/bring the flower away from the wall?

Photo 3. What is your subject? What are you trying to show in this photo? The mountains? The lake? Something else? This is a nice exposure with absolutely no subject.

Photo 4. Better control of depth of field in this one; making the background (street) out of focus. Bravo. You could have used this even more. You also used an interesting camera angle.
There is no motion in this photo so you could have used larger aperture and decreased the shutter speed. Use a telephoto or longer lens to emphasize the car and make the background even more out of focus.
Again, I'm not sure what your subject is. My attention is immediately drawn to the tail light. (was that your intention?). But, I can't get excited about the tail light. I see thousands of these every day and there is nothing unique or especially interesting about this one.

Please take these observation as just suggestions to think about to grow more proficient. I am intentionally not criticizing or insulting. Just take these comments as just one viewer's impressions. Put them in your bag of "tools" to reflect and build on in your future outstanding photos.

I am a drummer. I have hit my drums literally millions of times. Each stroke improves my skill just a bit. There is no substitute for iterations. Go forth and take many, many photos. Each one will help you be just a little bit better.

I would be interested in your feelings about these thoughts.
