There is a sewing machine place in Cobourg but I haven't been able to afford the Janome, Pfaff and Huskavarna machines that she sells. She will allow you to come in and use her machines for a small price.
I've got a Singer. I've always had Singers. I even have an antique Singer.

Wow, I've never come across a shop that lets people use their machines!! I bought my first one when I was working in the post office opposite the shop. In my lunchtime, I'd go over and watch the old chap sitting in the window, embroidering on one of the machines, I was fascinated! He certainly knew how to reel me in!!! xxxx

Do you have another yarn that you can try?

Well, I'm only making this afghan to occupy myself and use up this huge cone of cream yarn I have!! I didn't want it to be too heavy so I sort of like it light and lacy!! xxxx

I forgot to say, we have had squirrel wars in the backyard all weekend. A group of squirrels has been coming across the park and into our yard and fighting with the resident squirrels. This isn't the normal chases. This is face to face fighting, wrestling and pulling out hair. At one point, they were fighting on the roof of our house. I'm thinking that whoever used to be feeding the squirrels on the other side of the park has run out of seed. Our squirrels will not share with any squirrel that is not a relative. They had scouts set up at the top of the trees to watch for these invaders. The little birds have been emptying the feeders too.
Normally, this time of year, the squirrels would be in a slumber waiting for warmer weather, but our weather has been so up and down that they aren't doing that and they have gone through their stores already.

I think that is why the successful yarn stores over here have an area at the front where people can knit.

Glad Canada is being cautious about the vaccine but they need to realise there isn't time to be TOO cautious!!! xxxx

Especially now that they know the new variants are spreading in the community.

That sounds wonderful but very scary, I don't think I could do it, yet I love tigers. I'd be scared they'd react badly to something about me, perfume or whatever and take my head off!! Give me a nice cuddly sloth any day!!xxxx

Good morning from Port Hope Ontario Canada. It is 6:35 am EST and -22'C (-8'F). We had sunshine all weekend and frigid temperatures. That big snow storm hammering the US north, stayed south of Lake Ontario, so we didn't get any snow. This was my bi-weekly shopping weekend and it was cold putting the groceries in and out of the car. I ran into my boss's, boss's, boss who is also the CAO of our company. We've known each other for years and we got to talk to a bit. We both agreed that working from home is working well, but he is working from his basement where I get windows. I ribbed him a bit about shopping outside of his area. But he lives midway between where I live and work and he said it was just as far to go to the Walmart in Oshawa/Whitby as it was to go to the Walmart in Cobourg. And Cobourg is not as crowded. I did completely avoid an aisle where a paramedic was shopping for dog food. He still had his uniform on. The same uniform that could have been in an ambulance with a person with covid. I probably was over-cautious.
Our new covid number is 1848 and the positivity rate is 3.7%. More schools are moving the students to in-school learning. Stores can't open but kids can be put on crowded buses to go to crowded schools. (?!) Canadians will not be allowed to fly to sun destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico, effectively cancelling March break when a lot of Canadians fly south for warmth. All the Canadian airlines have agreed to not fly there until April 30. There is now mandatory testing once you land at the airport and you must stay at one of the airport hotels with full in room service until you get your results up to 1 week later. The airport hotels are charging up to $700 CAD per night. A new loan is available for small businesses that have had more than 50% loss due to covid. The businesses will have up to 10 years to pay this loan back.
Novavax has applied for Health Canada to approve their vaccine. It says its testing shows 89% efficiency against the UK variant and 90% efficiency against the South Africa variant. This one only needs to be refrigerated not frozen and comes already pre-mixed so no discrepancies about the amount of vaccine delivered. The government has agreed to purchase 50million doses, but not until after April. Our Health Canada takes a lot of time to approve anything.
I finished knitting by Shift cowl. I love the colours so much. Now I need to block it somewhere so I can seam the back seam. And I'm back to knitting the sleeves on my Aldous. Knitting the sleeves first is actually working for me.
