Sony has been awesome for repairs. They had to replace the entire electronics on my a6000 twice. That is my bicycling travel camera. Never a problem with them. No cost. Never claimed abuse as some of the other companies will. Although it is not my main equipment I shoot it just enough to appreciate their great attitude.

Your post says 1-1/2 inch drop, but I’m gonna guess you meant a foot and a half. Onto carpet, I seriously doubt any damage was caused. The rectangle just means you are in single shot mode for shutter release, the hand waving means sayonara to you! No, just kidding! It just indicates steady shot is on. The flower I assume means you are in macro setting in scene mode.
I would just dial through the display menu till it is again familiar, this should get your view back where you want.
Good luck and let us know how this works out. Happy shooting!
