Government grows as much due to the demands of constituents for something to be done about something. Everybody wants something, but also want someone else to pay for it.

Each state is doing its own thing. Here in Florida, each county has its own process. I am registered in both my county and the USF Health system here in Tampa. So far, there has been no more vaccine delivered. So I cannot schedule a date for an inoculation. Hopefully, the new administration in DC will do a better job of producing and delivering the vaccine.

The primary goal of any government is to increase the size, need and importance of the government. The more complex something can be made, the more the need to provide "assistance".

I think it’s become stylish (and certainly with some reason) to denigrate all forms of government and civil servants, and I would be the first to say we have waste, inefficiency and unresponsiveness at all levels, BUT we do need government and frankly, we have never needed it more. The fact that it has proven inadequate in this crisis is a function of this particular iteration, and we have only ourselves to blame, as we have voted for them. Rather than complaining about the current quality, I suggest we make better decisions going forward.

There is waste, inefficiency, and unresponsiveness in businesses also. I ran my own business for 30 years and I can't really claim that there was never any of those things, as much as I wanted to hold to that level. Being human (and male) I made numerous impulse purchases that didn't work out. I did things my way (I would probably try another way if someone recommended it, but if I didn't like that way or didn't have time to give it a fair trial, I would go back to my way). There were days on which I didn't want to do things my customers or workers wanted me to do.

And the larger the business, the more set in their ways they tend to get.

Waste, inefficiency and unresponsiveness is not a government issue. It's a human issue.

First, thanks for saying what you said!!

I was a research chemist, it has often been said that the hard sciences are physics, chemistry, etc., but many have come to understand that the really hard ones are the social ones. Put atoms together and we can predict pretty well the final outcome, but people, no way. People are like quantum mechanics at the macro, real world, everyday level.

A few years ago, I got into the nature of "human nature", but never found any book which addressed whatever it was I was trying to find.

Inefficiencies and waste in private enterprises are self limiting.
If you keep on screwing up, you will lose money and may go out of business.

Government has no limiting factors.

Wrong!!!!!

Countries go bust also. We are just taking longer due to size and original natural resourses.
When we are a small enough part of the world economy, the rest will ignore us and we will be just another bankrupt has been. Only question is whether we cause a world wide depression in the process or only we go.

One of the VA newsletters said vets who see a VA doctor would automatically get an email when to make an appointment. I don't mind waiting. Maybe the single shot vaccine will be available.

Wait a minute!

I am a one horned mythical creature with the magic power to heal the sick and nutralize the poisons in bad water?

I wonder if there is any way to make some money off that? Then I wouldn't have to worry about the state of California figuring out how to bankrupt the teacher's pension fund.
