What is VAMS?
Yesterday, I registered for a COVID vaccination through New Hampshire's web site set up for that function. After I registered, the web site said I'd be contacted with more information in 3 to 5 days. Hours later, I received two e-mails from VAMS (Vaccine Administration Management System) instructing me to "schedule an appointment with a participating clinic" through a provided link.
I did a search on VAMS and it does seem to be connected to the CDC but if I already registered with the State for a shot, why would I repeat the process through VAMS? Or is VAMS actually a clever scam to get me to provide personal information? The VAMS address is cams.cdc.gov so it looks legit.
From CDC's VAMS website:
"States and jurisdictions across the United States are using different web-based applications for vaccination clinic management. One of those systems is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Vaccine Administration Management System, or VAMS. Contact your health department to find out which vaccination management system they are using for vaccine enrollment and scheduling."
Perhaps New Hampshire is using VAMS to schedule vaccination appointments, provide proof of vaccination, and track data.
I saw the same thing on VAMS' web site but I'm wondering why the State of New Hampshire hasn't indicated I'd be contacted by a Federal agency, once I'm State-registered? I followed VAMS' link and after asking my state and county, it wants me to log in with a password...that I never set up. Seems odd. I haven't gone any further.
Sorry for the false alarm folks; VAMS is legit.
AFTER the CDC's VAMS site contacted me, The State of New Hampshire just now contacted me to tell me VAMS would be contacting me "in the near future" to set up my appointment. So I went through the VAMS link, registered, and now I have a February vaccination appointment. I guess VAMS is how the Feds keep track of how the vaccination program's going.
So all is well...assuming there's any vaccine available, come February!

My CT VAMS appointment is February 12th.
Multiple reports of the #@$&% scammers pretending to be this and other scheduling services. Often claiming to be at a "discount price".
Ignore them and go directly to your local doctor/hospital/health department and ask them how to get the vaccine.

I registered with the local health center 2 weeks back. Yesterday morning I called and got the answering machine and left a question to see if I needed to also register with the VAMS and 5 hours later they called and asked if I could get to the center in 2 hours. I did and got the first shot - I think asking the question got their attention.
Here in New York State, the governor but his best people from the DMV to the vaccine task.
We are promised shots by year-end.

I went through the process yesterday. It was on the news last night because others were concerned or confused. They said it was all legit. I have an appt for my first shot late March.

Why so long?
My county said Friday a week they had already started for those 75+, but had no vaccine?
They have only done about 60% of those eligible, but were to start 65+ Monday, but site show no vaccine/ appointments available??
Other location on site indicates mid-Feb for 65+?
To my knowledge county has highest % vaccinated in state, 7%, just can not get vaccine, or I suspect even accurate estimates of when.
The primary goal of any government is to increase the size, need and importance of the government. The more complex something can be made, the more the need to provide "assistance".

But despite the complexity and disfunction, some people DO get vaccinated. Which may even turn out to be a lifesaver.
I for one, would not like to attend a party on a second floor deck which was not inspected by a government official whose primary goal may be to collect a fee, AND/OR whose primary goal might be to insure that the ledger is properly fastened to the structure and not just lag screwed into the sheathing.
When I fly on a plane it is somewhat reassuring to know that the FAA has something to say about it. Not just the manufacturer whose main objective is the health of his bottom line.
