I shoot JPG... so moving files from SD card to computer was no problem until about a week ago. Suddenly Windows 10 Photo changed the way it behaves with no different changes or input from me. Windows Update maybe? I used to move my photos from SD card reader to the data drive with a couple of keystrokes and it put them in my data drive pictures folder. It put them in a folder with a year/month format for the shooting date. I would then just add the day to the file name now in my pictures folder and move it to the proper year and month folders inside the same pictures folder. Now suddenly, it just drops them into the main pictures folder on the data drive one at a time, not in a named folder, so when I open the folder after the transfer, there are sixty single (or however many) files instead of one neat folder containing those files. I then have to manually create the YYYY/MM/DD folder and move them into it. I can do the folder transfer with FastStone almost as quickly, but I was hoping somebody might know a quick fix or have an idea for the Windows Photo problem. Windows 10 Photos would be a great little program for managing JPGs if it didn't have so many flipping bugs. Hope this question is in the right place. TIA!

This problem was addressed about a week ago. I encountered the same problem. Windows indicated to me that they may not do anything about it. My solution was to obtain a cable from Best Buy that would allow me transfer the pictures using Canon's DPP program for my Canon 7D ii.

Same problem. I am not computer literate so I am completely confused.
Is there a simple solution?

Yes! You need to make an effort to be more computer literate with todays equipment. Serious comment.

Exactly. Digital cameras are not only cameras but they’re computer accessories. The most basic thing is to learn how the file system works.

What's changed in File Explorer
Windows 10
Like many of the finer things in life, File Explorer has gotten better with age. To check it out in Windows 10, select its icon on the taskbar or the Start menu, or press the Windows logo key + E on your keyboard.

Here are some noteworthy changes for Windows 10:

OneDrive is now part of File Explorer. For a quick primer on how it works, check out OneDrive on your PC.

When File Explorer opens, you'll land in Quick access. Your frequently used folders and recently used files are listed there, so you won't have to dig through a series of folders to find them. Pin your favorite folders to Quick access to keep them close at hand. For more info, see Pin, remove, and customize in Quick access.

Now, you can use apps to share files and photos right from File Explorer. Select the files you want to share, go to the Share tab, select the Share button, and then choose an app. For more info on sharing options, see Share files in File Explorer.

If you're coming from Windows 7, here are a couple more differences:

My Computer is now called This PC, and it won’t show up on your desktop by default. To find out how to add This PC to your desktop or the Start menu, see My Computer is now This PC.

Libraries won’t show up in File Explorer unless you want them to. To add them to the left pane, select the View tab > Navigation pane > Show libraries

Well, here we are another four months on and everything was working fine... create the destination and set that as the destination in Win Photos and it worked fine, transferring all the files to the proper folder. Now, when I hit enter to complete the sequence, the app closes. It has done it with the V3 micro card and the D7100's SD card. I'm just jumping to the conclusion that they broke it again (intentionally for some unknown reason?) but in any case, I'm following the @gvarner advice and skipping it altogether for the transfer process. Funny thing is, it has no problem finding the files for viewing?? I do like it as a viewer. Who knows? They've beaten me into either submission or resignation once again. Computers were supposed to simplify life, right?
