Have any of you UHHers received EBay’s new proposal to bypass PayPal on items you sell on EBay? From what I’ve read, they will deduct all charges from a sale and deposit the remaining funds directly into your bank account. This would eliminate PayPal’s fee for handling the money.
My thoughts on this is; if you sell something on EBay and the buyer pays via PayPal does EBay’s proposal really save anything in the process? I would still think that there would not be any savings, looking for your comments.
The main thing that bothers me is that they want you SS #.... PayPal didn't require it. eBay fine print just states that "regulations require it" . I sent an email to eBay requesting A copy of the regulation but so far (been a week) they have not replied. Maybe if all the ebay users would sent the request they might actually look at their mail and answer us.
The offers of direct deposit I saw were NOT FROM EBAY! It was a scam trying to get your information. The two I saw were from two different email addresses - both kind of funky addresses, one in East Europe and one somewhere in Asia.

Thank you for pointing that out. I am usually more diligent about scams and I didn’t check this one out. I didn’t respond to the scam, but it sure didn’t make sense to me.

In UK, Ebay have switched from using Paypal compulsorily to collecting the money & paying it into your bank account. There's no saving as Ebay have increased their fees to what was previously Ebay + Paypal. The new system wotks - I sold an item & funds were deposited in my bank account 3 or 4 days later. I certainly didn't need to give them any further info.
Are you saying, that you only needed to give ebay your bank routing number and account number and NOT the UK equivalent of our Social Security number?

People should be immediately suspicious of anyone or entity asking for their SS#. The government should pass a law against asking people for their SS# as so many of these companies are being hacked and that information stolen.
When they asked for my SSN I immediately took the one item I had for sale off the site. I have no problem with eBay trying to increase their bottom line but I guard my SSN. The only reason I can see they would need it would be for reporting income to the IRS for the big sellers that use it as a storefront.

Actually, I believe the law states that it can not be used as a form of identification, yet Medicare has taken forever to change using it. Kind of like, all US paper currency, states all debts public and private, but many places state they will take 50's or above.
Madagascar only wanted hundred's of a certain issue? Irrelevant to point at hand, but i tnteresting.

I do believe Uncle Sam wants your tax dollars so EBay needs your SS#. Ebay does own PayPal.

In 2015, eBay spun off PayPal to eBay's shareholders.

It is against eBay's rules to use them for an auction and then sell it to someone and bypass eBay. If you got caught they'd suspend your account. Also, it really sounds like a scam. It's better to ALWAYS use PayPal because they are going to back people than use them. I bought something from a seller on eBay and the very next day I got an email from eBay telling me that they removed that seller that I had just purchased the item from and that I might want to start a formal complaint with PayPal to get a refund. I did just that and in about 3 days they put the money back in my account. I don't know how this seller fooled everyone. They had 7 or 8 sales, and 100% good feedback. The hackers are getting better and better these day.

There was an article about a woman in Italy offered a job at Harvard, I believe, she turned in her resignation, etc. Communications were over a month period I believe. All fake, no explanation as to why done. She said it appeared they had hacked every web account she had.

I have the same concerns especially about the Social Security number and so I have not signed up. eBay is threatening to not allow me to do any more listings effective January 20. I am going to send the request to eBay for a copy of the regulation
