Looking for a recommendation for a 200-500 lens to complement my Nikkor 70-200. Camera is a Nikon D750. Someone told me that the Nikkor 5.6 would not work compatibility with the D750 which sounds strange to me.

An awesome lens, most of my shots are taken with that lens, and "hand held"

I LOVE my Nikkor 200-500mm lens. The only complaint can be that the rig weighs quite a bit, but for me worth it!

I recently purchased the Nikon 200-500 5.6 and use it on my D7500. It is great. For me, a pretty serious amateur, it does everything I hoped it would. Five pounds gets a bit heavy but I have a Cotton Carrier system that allows me to hang it from my backpack strap. I have hiked many miles with it already and am very pleased.

Did you want a zoom or a prime? From the way you posed your question, it could either mean you're looking for a 200-500mm zoom or a prime lens in the range above 200mm.

Certainly the Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6 might be the ticket, if a zoom is what you want. Everyone has assumed it's what you're asking about. It's certainly a good lens, though rather large and heavy. The most similar alternatives are the Tamron 150-600mm "G2", Sigma 150-600mm "Contemporary" and the Sigma 150-600mm "Sport". These are also rather large lenses, and the Sigma Sport is particularly hefty.

If you want a smaller, lighter prime you might want to look at the Nikkor 300mm "PF" and 500mm "PF". A 300mm in combination with a 1.4X teleconverter makes for a pretty useful pair of focal lengths. I don't know how well the 300mm PF works with 1.4X, but it's worth checking into.
