Why is it that photographers are obsessed with obtaining so many lenses? I only have 3 lenses that serve me well. I have owned them now for about 8-10 years during which I have bought 4 new bodies. My lenses are the Canon 10-22mm efs, the 24-105mm L EF, and the 100-300mm EF. During the time i have owned these lenses I have owned the Canon XT, the 60d, 70d and now the 90d bodies. But I have never had a desire to buy new lenses. Why would I? My 24-105 is my general purpose lens. I use it for 75% or more of my shots. The 10-22 is for when I have to go wide and the 100-300 is for sports, wildlife and general telephoto needs. I cannot imagine needing anything else other than maybe a 50mm prime with a large aperture. I don’t have a camera bag big enough for anymore lenses.

How many lenses do you own?

I own 12 Nikkor lenses and four Nikon APS-C cameras. Some lenses purchased new, most used at very reasonable prices. Each lens has a specific purpose and some used often, others not as often. Focal range covered is 17-300mm.

I wish I could answer your question! Or should I say my wife does.

I have over 400 lenses and have used most in test shots only.

FL Range 6mm to 1200mm, APS-C, FF, 645, 6x7, large format, manual and AF, dates of manufacture from 1880 to 2020.

Bought two more yesterday!

Because its a hobby, no rational reason needed other than "I want", unlike a business that generally requires a profit motive to justify the expense.

You cared enough to comment, bringing the thread back on top. Seems like you may not want to let it just fade away.

Well that explains it, you see in the Nikon world you have to have 30 lenses to be considered a photographer, I guess Canon has their advantages.

That may work for what you are doing. Your camera is a crop sensor and that in itself makes a different situation than full frame cameras. Certain situations I shoot in at night I want the fastest that are financially feasible for me and a camera that has great performance up to 12500 iso

I am considering buying the largest photo pack and filling it with foam with one camera on top. This should impress my photo buddies when we go out, with the foam in I can impress them on how rugged I am to carry it all.
On second though I might not put my camera in it just my iPhone.

Because I don’t think most of us need more than a few lenses at most. Is that intelligent enough Leitz?
