Another robber fly from this morning. 2nd photo is a different one. Not having any luck finding out the Species of these guys. The Genus 'Ommatius' has over a hundred different species. None of the folks over at the bugID are going out on a limb and naming a specific 'Species'. Don't want their job.
Very easy to find now. They are almost everywhere I go. Around 3/8 inch long, they hang low in the grass and weeds. Well below knee height. I'm lucky I guess and only 5'5" so I'm closer to them, than you taller Macro Folk. As I walk thru the weedy ditches I drag my feet a bit and I stir them up if I pass them in my search for other insects.
Very nice series. I especially like #3.
Very nice, I really like #1
Very nice. I really like them all. :-D
very nice shots! i have never seen one that small.tom
Thanks Guys.
Hey Tom, most of the ones in this area are from 3/8 inch to about 1 1/2 inches long. I got a few shots of the bigger Giant robber about a month ago. I think one of the reasons they were so hard to find in the beginning was I was looking for a bigger insect. Now I find them all the time, guess I'm use to the size and getting an eye for them.
