Santa is bringing me a new Canon R6. It comes with a 24-105 mm f/4-7.1 lens. Has anyone had any experience with this lens and camera. One person told me the lens wasn’t that good another said it was a good lens. I have several L lens and Santa also will bring an adapter so I can use them.

Thanks and Happy Holidays

Let me know how you like it as I'm considering buying this camera. I have the RF 24-105 F4 L and it's great with my EOS R.

I have the R6 and the 24-105 lens, which is a great lens. Also have the 24-240, the 800mm F-11, and the 100-500mm. All are fine lenses. In fact I have changed from DSLRs to mirrorless. You should have a great time learning the R6 and using it!

Is it really afraid of the new or is it more likely people like what they have and just don't want to change until it is necessary?

I have no problem going with mirrorless when the time comes. But so far my Nikon D800 is working just fine, I get great photos with it when I do my part and a mirrorless camera is most likely not going to make any HUGE changes for the positive in my photographic skills. When I need a new camera I am happy to look into a mirrorless camera.

Agree. I got that lens with the R5 and find it excellent. Used it exclusively for the first few weeks and very pleased. I'm willing to bet all the RF lenses will be equally good and better than the SLR L series. Anyone with doubts should rent it and give their own test!

LOL.... I don't want to hear this, I have way too much money in some very fine EF lenses and do not plan on replacing them with RF's. I have to say that I have the RF 24-105L IS that came on the R camera I traded a lens for, and have also used it on my new R5, I find it far superior to the old EF 24-105L IS. BTW, if you have not yet purchased the adapter with the polarizer insert, stop waiting, it is great if you are still using EF lenses.

I'm using the Canon R6 with the EF-EOS-R Adapter that's connected to the Sigma 60-600mm telephoto lens. Can I add a 1.4 teleconverter to this setup?

Yes, just make sure that the teleconverter is compatible with the lens. It used to be that Canon and Sigma would work on pretty much any of the other's lenses that were compatible with teleconverters, I am not so sure that is still the case today. I would probably buy a Sigma TC to be sure and first check their compatibility charts to make sure that the TC will work on your 60-600. I have both Canon 1.4X and 2X TCs that I have used on my R5 with no issues.

You pose a good question, my first mirrorless was a used Fuji X-T1 that I bought to use vintage lenses on, I soon upgraded to the X-T2 and was very happy with it, mirrorless cameras offer a world of functionality when using old glass that a DSLR just can't. When the Canon R came out I was trying to sell a 500mm f/4 that I had with little luck so I ended up trading it to MTshooter for a Canon R and a 24-105 f/4L combo which enabled me to also use all my EF lenses on the mirrorless. The mirrorless is a different experience, for instance, I can put an 8 stop or even a 10 stop ND filter on the camera and still get an exposure preview in the EVF which when shooting Landscape can be a big aid. Personally I think that once you have a mirrorless you will find that you leave your DSLR in the bag. I found the tracking of birds in flight was terrible with the Canon R but expect the focus system of the Canon R5 to be greatly improved, I have not done any birding since I acquired the R5 but I am sure that I will get to try it out in the future.

I appreciate your opinion. So far my Leica M6 and M10 will have to be my mirrorless cameras.

I did purchase the Canon 1.4 adapter & joined it with my Sigma 60-600mm lens. Happy to report all is well & I'm getting some great shots. Now I'm trying to learn when to use auto settings vs other modes & how to adjust for each one. I did order David Busch`s CANON EOS R5/R6 Guide to Digital Photography. Hopefully this will help me when it comes out on July 27, 2021.
