What was the seller's rating? Often the comments on less than 99-100% A+ ratings can help you before purchase.

I would like the collective opinion of this community for an interpretation of NIB before I take the seller to task. I purchased a camera from a seller on eBay and it was advertised as NIB. I expected to get a brand new unused camera with all cables and documentation in the manufacturer's original packaging. What I received is a camera with a filter on the lens that was overly tightened, a charger, and a battery. Admittedly, the camera was in pristine condition. However, the charger clearly was previously used since it had many scuff marks on it. There was no documentation and no cables. Furthermore, none of the Nikon original packaging was included. I intend to notify the seller that he misrepresented the offering but before I do so, I want to know how the community interprets NIB. Thanks for your input.

You are supposed to have notified Ebay, they frown on misrepresentation on their site. It is bad for their reputation.

I made a copy of the original listing which I cannot find at the moment. But I went to My eBay and retrieved the following link:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/NIKON-COOLPIX-P7800-CAS000388/373320624446?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

If you scroll down you will see that the seller describes the offering as "new" and what is included.

I wanted to check with the UHH community to make sure there was a misrepresentation before I do anything drastic. I do believe that it would be prudent to contact the seller first.

It looks like you were taken advantage of.

A 90% rating is suspect to me. I would return it as you don"t know if the camera is electronically damaged. They don't appear honest to me.

After reading the listing, I don’t think there is any question that you got ripped off.

Believe me, it wouldn't be the first time.

90% rating is well below my threshold on EBay

Only 16* ratings, and 1 negative = 90.9% And that complaint was the same as the OP here but on a different camera.
Giving the seller the benefit of the doubt I would say that the seller needs to learn to use "Like New" or some other high rating instead of "New".

*only 16 feed backs, a novice by Ebay standards.

All of that is true and that should have been a clear signal for me to stay away. I did not notice that the same complaint was lodged by another buyer for the same reasons as mine. Thanks for pointing that out.

I agree with all of the above comments. NIB is new in box, period. Take it up with the seller. If not satisfied, return item for full refund, leave a review stating your issues with seller. Next time get clarification of conditition items BEFORE purchasing. Just saying. Good luck.

When selling items such as this I used the term NRB (never removed from box) if it was new. NIB would indicate everything there but may ha tried it and all pristine. All you did was buy a used camera. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Return or demand discount or report him/her.

I'd say the ebay post was a misrepresentation. You'd have to decide if you thought in 2020 you'd get a "new" camera from 2013? BTW: spending $200 for a 7-year old 12MP camera seems too much by at least $100.
