Use the cable and avoid card reader hassle. Do one or both cards and not have to pull then out. At worst it's a little slower - get a cup of coffee.

Never thought of that; thanks so very much for the heads up.

I dunno, long ago I was cautioned about hooking my expensive camera(s) up to *any* computer. At the time it made sense, since hacks and bugs abound, and it still does. <shrug> And I have a nice pile of CF cards which haven't come close to a bent pin...all this fear over something that's *very* avoidable.

Just. Be careful with the USB connector on the camera. Although they are rated for 5K insertions, I have seen that connector fail after a few hundred, and replacing it requires a main board replacement. Safest way, if your camera supports it and you can stand the speed is WiFi.

...mine is a Transcend I bought many years ago when virtually all my Nikons used CF cards. Still does the job when I need it! (I never could figure out the "bent pin" moaning...I've *never* had a problem with that and I'm not that careful by nature <shrug>)

I also use the Transcend. I am quite satisfied with it.

Okay, understood, thanks a bunch.

I use a Lexar Professional USB 3.0 Dual-Slot Reader (UDMA 7). About $22 from B&H. Great reader. Does not bend pins.

I also use this reader. Been using it about a year with no problems.

I have a Lexar brand multi-card reader that I also purchased from BH several years ago and it works well. USB 3 connection and well built.

I use the usb connector for connecting a CamRanger or tethering to a laptop, exclusively. I don't want to risk losing that connector to damage, especially when there are a lot of people walking around the tether cable.

Having 2 card slots on my cameras makes it easy to download from a card reader. I have a Delkin and a Lexar reader, both are 3.0 and have never had any problems doing downloads.
