Exactly, when you eliminate fossil fuels that is where you will end up. At least as it sits today.

Ask yourself what's worse; electricity off the grid from a coal fired power station,
or nuclear power station, or the diesel generator (more likely alternator) in the picture...
there really is no irony here.
Also, there's very long drives between anything in this part of Australia.
If one had an electric vehicle, one would be very grateful
indeed for this facility.
Speaking of coal fired power stations, that is where the electricity
comes from where I live. Fortunately the coal that is dug out of the La Trobe
valley, (that our power stations burn) has a low sulphur content unlike
most coal that is mined for power stations. So the sulphuric acid component
of our rain is relatively low... of course there is still the nitric acid component that is
created by all burning, to contend with... if I remember my environmental
studies correctly.
This is the irony with electric vehicles.

Let's see, drive two hours and then wait for 4 hrs for a charge so you can proceed. Then there is the monitoring of the generator and the making sure the generator is always supplied with fuel to run. Life just gets more complicated. Better not miss the charging station because it is a long way back with car in tow. not like carrying a gas can. Better take a wagon to carry the batteries because they are heavy, last time I lifted one just last week.

It will take how many hours to charge using how much diesel? Diesel, being a fuel that burns dirtier than gasoline. It seems we are going backwards in our progress.

That's OK. The "Ministry of Truth" media will take notice of the world reducing its carbon footprint from 300 000 000 to 320 000 000 metric tons.

This is the folly of the electric car idea saving the environment.

No, it is just stupidity coming to light.
Soweit know for sure itโs diesel and not natural gas? Makes a big difference. Would like to know.

So many posters here are taking one part of the whole and judging based on that. You should look at the whole picture before you make pronouncements.
That fire truck racing down the street with it's diesel engine carrying that heavy 500 gallons of water to save your house from burning down is a terrible attack on the environment, just look at that exhaust - terrible.......................
-Without diesel, store shelves would be empty.
-Check out how much/many pollutants are created making those batteries.
-Although a comical meme, most likely rigged or photoshopped (or the PP program of your choice).
-Then again, could be in the South.....gotta love Redneck ingenuity!!! ๐

What they never tell you is that you have to make the electricity. About 80% of the time that's how it's done, with a fossil fuel. So much for it being carbon free or what ever they want to call it. If you want an electric car, that's fine, but you are not really saving the environment. My opinion.

Couldn't agree with you more. When they come up with a self-charging, battery powered vehicle, only then will they get my attention. All the rest is smoke-and-mirrors, robbing Peter to pay Paul.

This is why you don't want hippies to solve your problems!
