I received an e-mail from my tech support group advising me not to upgrade until the first or second maintenance update is released, which will probably be early 2021. While Adobe is supposedly supported and compatible at this time, many third party plug-ins are not. (Although I just received notice that Iridient is ready with an update. ) Unless you have a compelling reason to make the move to Big Sur, I believe the overall consensus among techies is to wait for a few months.

Has anyone upgraded to the new OS for the iMac's? If so, has anyone encountered any problems? last question, does anyone know if this new OS Big Sur is compatible with ON1 Photo Raw 2021? I don't want to initiate the download until I can determine if it is compatible with ON1 Photo Raw 2021, as that is my main PP software.
I realize I can contact the developer for an answer, but thought someone on this forum my be knowledgeable in this regard.
Thanks for anyone that can answer these questions.

Mountain Lion was released a year afterward. Apple has released a new version on a pretty much annual basis since 10.0. So you can skip the Apple hating.
At some version the Mac OS will be exclusively 64-bit architecture. When that happens all your 32-bit architecture software will be inoperable. Does anyone know the name of the first OS that enabled 64-bit and the name of the last that enabled 32-bit. Versions between those two would run slow. This is something to keep in mind.

Both operating systems written by humans, so both capable of faults. Big difference with MacOS, through all of the versions no Mac owners have paid a penny for upgrades. Bill Gates can’t make that same claim.

To johnec. I have never paid for an up grade since going from windows7 to Windows 10. Unlike Apple everything is a rip off price wise
Never update on Friday the 13th ;)

That may be, but you had to pay to get to Windoze 7, and you'll have to pay to get to whatever comes after Windows 10. As for your "rip off price" statement, that's a matter of opinion. And you're entitled to yours.

My wife updated her Mac today. She downloaded the update overnight. It was installed this morning but needed a hard reboot. She is still exploring the new features. So far no problems.
I'm NOT disparaging Macs in any way, but ...
Any thing done to a MAC usually needs two full reboots to fully inter great
Upgrade to HiSierra? The firmware upgrades. It reboots. Installs OSX. Reboots. Looks good? Reboot.
Upgrade to Mojave? Same thing. Except for the metal video card thang.
Don't always do the little upgrades- the combos almost always work the first time.
Still having issues? Take two PRAMS, reboot, look/get new upgrades. Reboot.
THIS is yet another refurbed (by me) 2009 MacPro 4,1 firmed to 2012 5,1; new ram and CPU.
Dual boots Win 8.1 and HiSierra. Added PC video card- OSX is crap. Reboot. Angels smiled.

Johnec. I did not pay for Windows 7 I was offered it free by Microsoft all I had to do was write a report on how it worked and how easy it was to in install.
As for Apple giving free spearheaded every thing they is much dearer than Windows products, how they change the charging lead in their phones so you have to purchase a different type of lead. The only Apple product I use is a granny smith

But the granny smith isn't a mac. Although I am not a fan of granny smith apple i am not a fan of Macintosh apple either.
