Here is your pic using Affinity / haze removal / clarity. There is, of course, a certain amount of mountain mist, which I think enhances the effect.

It's clearer but the sky and the mist need more work to make them look less processed. I'm leaning more towards accepting the mist and working with it rather than against it.

The hazy distant mountains are a nice contrast to the closer areas - this is a beautiful shot.

Thank you Sue. I wouldn't want every one of my shots to be hazy and misty but I'm happy to go with it now and then.

Apologies for posting an edit to your pic, which, as an example, I thought might be useful to you. It seems that, when reading your three posts (quoted here) you are having a problem making your mind up.

Just to clarify, I know what I would like, but I have to be realistic about my expectations. I would have liked less haze to start with but on the other hand I want to process what I have in a way that suits me. I've decided that fighting against the haze won't give me a result that I'd be happy with. I've managed to moderate the haze somewhat and I'll leave it at that. After you posted your edit I went back to it and tried some more adjustments but didn't go any further than some minor tweaking.

The trouble with haze combined with bright sunshine is that it very easily leads to glare that's difficult to deal with. I'll settle for subduing the glare.

I'll probably call a halt with it the way it is now. Thanks for your comments.

It is a great scene R.G. Beautiful as is but getting less haze would help too.

Thank you John. Less haze will have to wait for a re-shoot.

I like both pictures, but would probably have used some highlight reduction on the sky in the second one. I think it overpowers the scene a little.

Thank you David. I think #1 shows how far I want to go with this particular shot. A re-shoot some time in the future isn't out of the question.

A little late in commenting on your photo. The image you presented, looks to my eye to be, as they say, spot on. You indicated you had taken it a long way from the original exposure. If you are inclined, I would like to see what it started out as.

Thanks. This is a jpg of the original merged bracketed shots. As you can see it needs a fair bit of brightening - and as you can probably guess, that's where the trouble starts .
