I went to the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge yesterday morning because (1) to go next week would require getting up an hour earlier for the same light angles, (2) the morning temp would be a balmy 32 F and (3) the week long freeze killed the bugs.

My best laid plans went afoul. As soon as the sun came up, I was in the midst of as much gunfire as I have seen for a long time. Evidently I failed to notice duck season was ongoing. This, of course, put an end to any plans for me to park and stroll the water front. Hunters are notoriously unamused by people strolling past their blinds.

So, either no birds were migrating or they took cover during my early visit. I will post the few bird shots I got later.

The attached landscapes are best viewed in download.

Beautiful rendering of very scenic early-morning captures. #3 and #6 are my "faves", but they are all excellent.
Please stay well and keep on sharing the great work.

Beautiful series of the dawning of a duck hunters dream day!! Still, you made some great lemonade.

I went there for the same reasons thinking there probably won't be that many hunters on a Friday...wrong!! Left early to try another couple areas.

You know, I got to thinking as you drove away if that was you!!

Beautiful set, Mike. My absolute favorite early early morning outings are when Mother Nature blesses the landscape with a bit of pink in the sky.

I was the old devil in the Audi Q7. Mia from the bird watch site was there also and got some great loon shots.

I appreciate that, Joe. I also love the early light play that really enhances a landscape shot.

Thanks, Elliott. Only got a few coots and a heron, but the landscapes worked.

It is a lovely, quiet place just before and during sunrise. The Refuge is on the shore of the Great Salt Lake.

That is most kind of you to say, Rob. Mother Nature does good photo ops.

The Refuge is always worth the trip whether I get birds or not. That time before sun rise and just after is worth the entire drive (about an hour and 20 minutes).
