Kathy, I have seen many a hurricane growing up in South Florida and I tip my hat to you for helping the friends and families of LA. We had similar help after storms down there and I still remember my Dad cooking the meat from our chest freezer and feeding the neighbors. I have done the same up here in Raliegh after Fran hit in 1996. I emptied my freezer and passed out the meat to my neighbors.

Kathy, I have seen many a hurricane growing up in ... (show quote)

We fed 1000 people in one day! It's so rewarding to see a smile break through that darkness.

Well, thank you. God kicked me on the butt and told me to get to work. All I could do was say ok.

Thank you, Linda. One thing that really touched me was the number of volunteers there to work. Although the number was less than normal because of Covid, there were literally hundreds working every day. They brought relief in an impossible situation and gave comfort where they could.

Thank you. The purpose of the thread was to let folks know the extent of the devastation. I hope that is coming through.

Great coverage! It's so sad that they got hit so many times this season.

Thanks, nimbushopper. One fellow had painted a bull's eye on his house! And when I left, the third was headed in. But it veered to the east, so they were spared the worst of it.

Thanks. I sure wish they could get more people down there to help. There is SO MUCH to be done!

What organization did you go to? Did they have accommodations already in place?

I worked with Churches of Christ Disaster Response Team. They work out of a church building. We slept in classrooms on air mattresses (or in my case, a cot). They provide all meals and the cooking was superb!
