This November 2 we're now four years removed from the Cubs 2016 World Series victory over the Cleveland Indians. The 2020 season was shortened to 60 games due to the corona virus outbreak. The 2020 playoff structure was changed to allow eight teams into the playoffs, with all eight teams playing a best-of-three Wild Card Series.

The 2020 Cubs finished 34-26, 1st in the NL Central. Because of the expanded postseason format, the National League Central became the first division in MLB history to have four teams qualify for the postseason in the same year. However, none of the four teams played each other, and all four ended up losing their respective Wild Card Series. The Cubs were gone in a hot minute, falling to the Miami Marlins in two straight games in their best of three series.

2020 was only the second postseason meeting between the Cubs and Marlins. The previous meeting took place in the 2003 National League Championship Series, in which the then-Florida Marlins won in seven games after trailing the series 3ā€“1. The 2003 series was made infamous by the Steve Bartman outfield incident.

First year manager David Ross was a catcher on the 2016 team. His home run in the 2016 WS game 7 made him the oldest player to do so in World Series history. His first managerial hiring was / is with the Cubs.

The full 162-game regular season was originally scheduled to begin on March 26, 2020. The pandemic caused Major League Baseball to shorten the season to 60-games and delay the start to July 23 with no fans in the stadiums.

The two B&W images feature Kodak TMAX 100 during the wait-n-see period of April 2020 for whether any portion of the 2020 season would be played. On March 12 the remainder of spring training had been canceled and the March 26 start of the season was postponed indefinately.

The Chicago Cubs 2020 home opener was originally scheduled for March 30, 2020. You might remember from this earlier post, the snow in Chicago didn't end until after April 15, 2020: Springtime in Wrigleyville

You had to bring up the Indians losing in 2016. I used to think it was a joke when people in Cleveland would say I hope the Indians or Browns win the World Series/Superbowl before they die. Now I'm 64 and it's not a joke anymore!!! The Cavs weren't mentioned by many in this quest for a winner and of course, they went on to win it all. Cleveland celebrated big but it won't be as big as when the Indians or Browns win it. Nice set on Wrigley!!

I like this post; probably since I practically lived at Wrigley when I was a kid. Oh, and Ron Santo used to do some work for my dad during the off season. Maybe that is why me and my cousin always had box seats 10 rows up from the 3rd base dugout.

Thank you Revet! Here's a bit from the Cavalier celebration.

Thank you tainkc! This past summer marked 30 years of living in Chicago (with a few short breaks in between from May 1990). The modernization work at Wrigley has been subtle, where now it's hard to remember when there wasn't a big-screen video board in left field and similar changes.

Thank you Revet, Bob, tainkc, Jim, John! In addition to another year of early playoff failure, the 2020 playoffs included the disappointment of lack of large celebrations. My photo trip for these pics was a circle around the stadium. Although the windows to all the bars on Clark were open on a brisk Friday morning, I saw only three people in one establishment. Go Cubs and stay safe!

While on the sports theme, Congratulations to the LA Dodgers for their World Series win. This comes just on the heels of the LA Lakers NBA Championship. Congratulations also to the Tampa Bay Rays, who put on a great showing (despite having 1/3 the budget of the Dodgers!), which, but for Snell foolishly being relieved when he was hot, may have gone to game 7. Tampa Bay is doing well for itself, though. Remember back a scant 8 weeks ago, they won the Stanley Cup, (always amused me how a FLORIDA team could have such good HOCKEY!), and, just take a look at the Bucs! Zowie! They might just even go to the SB this season!

Your Quote: ". . . we're now four years removed from the Cubs 2016 World Series victory over the Cleveland Indians."

My God . . . I'm still reliving the '85 Bears!

I live just 5 blocks from Wrigley Field and your photos have reminded me further of this imprisoning pandemic (albeit nice photos).
