Lake Los Carneros is a fairly small and shallow lake in Goleta, Ca. We’ve had three osprey fishing the lake the last ten days; not something we see that often. I’ve been trying to get these fast fishing hawks in focus but I’m not always successful. But I thought you might enjoy the lake reflection, and the fascinating way these amazing birds enter the water for their fish once they spot it with their incredible eyesight. They have gripping pads on their feet to help them capture the fish with their curved talons and carry them to a convenient spot to eat their catch. In flight, ospreys will turn the fish headfirst to more easily fly. I’ve included several photos of the osprey once it leaves the water with its fish.......it shakes its whole body to rid itself of water, and never loses the fish!

We’ve been lucky with this bird.....he’s been diving a lot, getting small fish. Thank you for stopping by!
