Reminds me of Americans traveling to Mexico getting "Montezuma's Revenge"! But I've heard that travelers to the U.S. may also get diarrhea because they encounter bugs they're not used to at home....

It happens all over the world. Go somewhere and get a virus you have no anti-bodies for and you get something that you don't get at home. Invite someone from that place to visit you and the same thing can happen to them when they get to your place. If the two of you then go to a third location with a different virus mix you both can get "interesting" things.

Actually viruses need a scanning electron microscope to see them from what I have read. Only a few of the very largest viruses can be seen by a light microscope and those giants of the virus world are aprx 25x the size of the smaller viruses.

I believe your quite right on the typical sizes of viruses., But I think microscopic is still an apropriate word for things visible through electron microscopes but not visual microscopes.

The lab people I have known use the term "sub-microscopic" when they have to go to an electron microscope and microscopic when it is something they can see through the eye piece of a light microscope.

I am sure that in other places they use the terms differently or even have different terms altogether.
