The Lost Liners

If you've lost a cruise ship, we've probably got it along our coast! Spotted seven of them in Weymouth Bay last week and we have at least six more in Swanage/Bournemouth Bay. The light attracted me while we were walking along the coastal path. It was just a couple of hours before Storm Alex rolled in - just time for a walk over the hill from Ringstead Bay to Osmington Mills, dinner at The Smugglers Arms, then a dash back for the car to avoid a drenching. Perfect! Hope you like these pretty much unmolested shots, just conventional Lr processing.

Some very nice "reportive" pictures. Personally, I like the photographic approach you displayed here:

Yes, I’m with you on that Bob, just thought folk might like to see the ‘straight’ versions - and what better place than FYC? Many thanks for the link, I hadn’t thought to include it.

#2 is so engaging (sans grunge, lol). Great that you caught the small boat to give us an idea of scale, and it's an interesting composition with the two massive ships perpendicular and with the light shining on the closer of the two.

They are huge aren’t they! Wouldn’t get me on one if you paid me but I do understand that those that enjoy them so much are missing their trips. Let’s hope it’s good news for them all come March.
The composition of the second shot was quite striking in that light, making it an easy choice to snap. Thanks for looking Linda.

It was not an Iceburg that sank these ships, it is now a virus, and before that a bacteria.

When I was quite young, my family crossed the Atlantic to Germany on the "Hamburg". I don't remember much about the rest of the trip; but I remember loving the boat ride. These modern monstrosities have very little in common, IMHO, with the elegant liners that used to cross our oceans.

You’re right Erich, they lack ‘majesty’ and simply impact due to their size.
