Rouen, France in 2015 – Part 5 – Rouen Cathedral – Stained Glass
In 2015 while anticipating a concert tour with my church choir, I participated in a cruise of the Seine River beginning and ending in Paris, France (where I’d meet up with the choir). One of the ports of call was the city or Rouen, and these are some photographs of my experience there. I’ve made several sets of my time in Rouen because there are a lot of pictures I’d like to share.

Amazing stained glass work!
For the 12 century -- the glass work was the best way to communicate with the church goers. Remember each piece of glass told a part of the bible's new testiment stories.
You have done a great job putting all this glass in photos -- congratulations!!
Longshadow, these windows represent a great many hours of detailed work by dedicated craftspersons.
ballsafire, the windows usually did depict major events of the Bible, mainly the New Testament. Most parishioners when they were built were illiterate, so the images were how they learned about those stories. I appreciate your nice comments. I put a lot of effort into my stained glass images.
I think you put a lot of effort in your photography (.) period!!! I really like your style. Most people would appreciate your photography - I certainly do. I have a style somewhat like yours.

Well, thank you very much! I admit that my most recent posts have involved a lot more work than my earlier ones, because I went back to my original versions (some rough PP on them) and redid the PP with Lightroom. I've learned a lot (more to do) about what LR can do for my photos, so before posting these to UHH I decided to upgrade them on Flickr. This involved Importing them (again, sometimes) into LR, redoing the adjustments, and Exporting them out to a sub-folder on my computer (keeping them separate from the "originals"). There is a tool in Flickr for replacing images without touching anything else (GPS, Descriptions, Comments, Tags, etc.). This is a lot more work than my usual practice with LR, which involves just using its tool to directly post to Flickr -- that function wipes out the Descriptions and I didn't want that (I don't put the Descriptions in LR, but add them to Flickr later).
Although it was a lot of extra work, I think the results are worth it. I'm retired and many of my usual activities are on COVID hold, so I've a lot of time I can spend this way.
I look forward to perusing some of your work.
I can see you really enjoy what you do. The windows are certainly colorful.

Yes, I do. The windows are not my work--they exist as products of very talented artists centuries ago--but I try my best to depict them well enough for others to enjoy them. (I don't always succeed, either, but I tend not to publish my failures.)
David, thanks for letting me visit these places vicariously through your photos.

You're welcome! I am pleased you like to do so.
Great stained glass series, David.

Thanks, Earnest. All told, I have about 800 photos of stained glass windows accumulated from all my trips and tours. Of course, some of those are from a distance and not particularly good. I have a special Album on Flickr for them.

Great set.. They just dont make them like that anymore.
srfmhg, I appreciate your nice comment. Glad you liked it.
Hal81, thanks very much. The "National Cathedral" in DC was supposedly built the old way (all stone structure), but using modern equipment to handle the stones. There are a few cathedrals and churches in the US that are fairly comparable, but not many.
