The Fall migration is well under way. SoCal is being visited by an interesting variety of birds relocating for the winter season and stopping on their way to new habitats. Some of these aren't even visitors in normal years but "vagrants," passing through SoCal in small numbers and in locations where they have seldom been seen. Although I haven't been able to find all of the reported rare species, it's been fun finding a few and getting out to look for others. All photos were taken with a Nikon D500, handheld, using a Nikkor 200-500mm telezoom set on Auto-ISO. Shutter speeds have ranged between 1/1250 and 1/2500. Apertures have generally been f/6.3 to f/9.0. Most look better as downloads.

ken, while we get Hooded and Bullock's Orioles fairly often here in Southern California, I have included none in this collection. Most of the birds I've included in this set are quite small...much smaller than an Oriole. It's amazing how many colorful birds we actually find here in SoCal. Hope you enjoyed this set. jak

Mike, that’s very kind. Thank you. The Baird’s was quite far away, so the photo is greatly cropped...not the sharpest photo, but I was happy to get it. Take care of yourself. jak
