Welcome. There are some great photographers on this forum and a few old "fuddy duddies", but take them with a grain of salt. You will learn much. Ask questions.

Hi,

I have been reading several posts and decided to join. I am extremely new. I currently have a Canon EOS 60D with just the basic lens that came with the kit several years ago. I am going to sell that one and am getting ready to upgrade to the 90D or up if another is better and really want input on what lens to purchase. I was talking with someone over the weekend that recommended I needed an 85mm first. but I would really appreciate input. I will be taking lots of animal pictures in motion. ( to start with my dogs) All suggestions appreciated. I am very excited to learn....
thank,
Nancy

I would look at a 70-200 for photographing your animal pictures. I have several lenses and that is my favorite animal lens.

Hi Nancy:
Welcome aboard.
When is it time to upgrade your camera?
When you can list specific reasons and short comings of your present camera.
Then log onto Canon's website and study the specifications and features.
One advantage of Canon's new R series is that with an adapter you can use any EOS lens be it EF-S, EF, or RF. The R series use full frame sensors. The RP is very similar to the 90D in price and technology. I got mine on sale from Canon for 300 off plus a free lens adapter. Either one is a fine camera. As to what lens? A lot of that depends on you, and what you shoot. My kit started with an EF-S 18-55 kit Zoom. With thoughts on a compact travel setup, I added an EF 70-300, an EF-S 10-18, and finally an EF 24-105L. The L does take nice sharp photos, but it is also big and heavy. A 24-105 or 24-200 zoom would be a good choice if only one lens is in your immediate future. But if you require really fast glass, then a small collection of prime lenses may serve you better. Just don't get in a big hurry to buy new untill you have put in a lot of consideration.
Ask questions. Ask for opinions. Don't get discouraged. Have fun.

Welcome, I will suggest a different look at your path. Look a Tamron 28-300mm lens. You will be told a lot of reasons not to do this but, I found I can use this lens 90%+ of the time, it fit most of your needs (and the quality of the pictures is fine) and as you get deeper you can decide what lenses you may want. I would also suggest not to buy any "S" lenses as you will grow out of your "non full frame and need to replace the s lenses
