If you want to blame another entity or person instead of someone who has failed to exercise his responsibility to be an informed consumer ...have at it.
It's always someone else's fault.

Not everyone is so smart, street smart, or savvy. Some call it naive. There are laws to protect those of us who are not smart. There are no laws that say how smart you must be. Give it a break already. Not everyone is you.

You are correct. It is too bad that deceptive business practices exist. But, if they were not successful, they would no longer be in business. Most novice camera buyers know little of what GRAY MARKET really means. 99.9% of the time novice camera buyers only see price. To them all D850's are the same, and if the price is really good, they think they are getting a deal.
And, there are many here who buy gray market and like them because they saved a buck.
While a professional photographer I always bought US equipment incase I needed quick warranty. I am still a member of Nikon Professional Services, not because I have needed them, but, in case I do.
Unfortunately, I agree with you about businesses using deceptive practices, many businesses use them to their advantage, again, if folks were aware of them, they would avoid them, but they do not, and these businesses continue to thrive because of inexperienced buyers.
