Friend of mine just bought a new D850 at a cheaper price this week, not realizing it's "grey market". After I told him the fact, he is very upset. The site where he got it from [4k for less] wouldn't accept returns.
I would like to help him to sell it some how. Although it works perfectly well like new, he doesn't want to take risk. I am very happy with mine "D850" which has legit US warranty.
Please suggest if you have any thoughts. Thank you in advance.
He can try selling it in the forum here. He needs to be honest about it. There are people that are happy to the risk knowing digital cameras rarely fail.
If it were me I would "bite the bullet" remember that when something seems to good to be true, it usually is" and start shooting. There is no reason the believe that a gray market product is an inferior product, just no warranty.
Good Luck
His D850 is equal to yours or mine. It just doesn't have a warranty in the U.S. I guess he can chalk it up as lesson learned.

He can purchase insurance.
The question is, can he find anyone to work on it and get parts if it ever needs repairs?

Assuming it was bought with a credit card, he might try contesting the charge with the card company on the basis of fraud, for not revealing it was grey market.

If he likes the camera, just use it. It the warranty not the quality. If something goes, probably cheaper to assess at that time.

They have a 30 day refund policy.
https://4k4less.com/return-policy.phpYour friend should use it. Also, nowhere on their site does it state that it doesn't have a legit warranty. Or put another way, delivering it with a 'limited one year warranty" is not exactly being transparent. He needs to contact the New Jersey Attorney General's office immediately and file a complaint, and still push for the return and refund. He can make the point that Nikon will not fix this camera were it to break (under warranty) or were he to drop it (non-warranty repair) because it circumvented the mfgr's distribution channel and as a buyer there was no way to determine this from the sellers website.
Unfortunately this happens all the time - people get swindled because they are cheap, and go for the cheapest deal out there. You can buy grey market from B&H and Adorama, but it is clearly marked as such.

His is the same camera as yours. A word..does not make it any the less. I will buy his perceived bad choice for 2K.

It has a warranty, just not a USA jammed your throat one.
Why sell it and lose money? If he needed service he could always ship it to Nikon in Canada for repair.
FWIW - Of all my Nikon gear the only item I ever had a problem with was a "refurbished" lens I bought from the Nikon store on-line.
Like it was already stated here, use it and be happy, the chances of it crapping out are very very low.

The biggest disadvantage to gray market is that IF the camera fails during the 1 year warranty he/she will have to send it to NIKON SERVICE of the country of origin. For instance, if the camera serial number starts with a 8, it came from the UK, and would have to be sent to UK Nikon for warranty service.
After the year is up on the warranty, if the camera fails, and he/she wanted Nikon to do the repair, he/she would have to send it to UK Nikon for repair as Nikon USA will not work on it.
Their are non authorized repair shops that will be able to service it IF they have parts, these parts usually come from cannibalized D850 bodies.
For the most part the Nikon D850 has proved to be very reliable and rarely fails.
Let this be a warning to those that like to only shop price, in the end, their is always a price to pay for being CHEAP or not adhering to the old adage, "if the price is too good to be true, beware".
Selling gray market and not accepting returns - two signs of a bad seller.
Selling it will be a challenge, assuming he says it's gray market. If I were in his position, I would keep it, use it, and enjoy it. Aside from recalls, I've never had a camera that needed repair, and this goes back fifty years. He should force himself to be happy that he got the camera at a good price.
