To me, it seems the D850 would be your best alternative. Keep the D500 for low light and action work, and the 850 for everything else. Good luck on your decision.

The D500, IMHO, is NOT a good choice for low light work. This is an area where the FX cameras are much improved over the DX ones. YMMV. Best of luck.

Actuwlly, low light work is one of the main reasons to add a D850, although the D500 is much more competent in that area than many here have figured out...

I have both the D500 and the D850... love them both... if you're not going to mirrorless in the future then the D850 is a great camera. I purchased mine as a retirement gift to myself. Been using Nikon for 50 years.... they just work.

Here are my final thoughts... My whole life I made a living as a pro photographer and with far cheaper and inferior equipment as compared to today's gear. Paid off houses, cars, children, and life's ups and downs... so now with the best equipment, I'm (you) douting the results? Just use what you have and have fun... soon the family will be selling your junk/stuff at a yard sale.

Just keep clicking away....

My latest gig was collecting images of a dead relative.... from this day on I'm going to try to take a photograph of everyone that I can... It's a shame not to leave this world without a photograph of yourself that's not 20 years old. Come on folks let's leave some images behind of loved ones and friends for others.
