Hi everyone, I’m Ron. I’ve been reading the posts for about a year. So much friendly help. I have a Canon rebel xti my family got me for birthday 7 years ago and it has seen better days. I like to shoot birds, wildlife, sunsets/sunrise and landscapes. I want to upgrade my camera but there are so many choices (just staying with Canon) that I can’t decide. There is a lot of technical terms, some features on one but not the other. I’m only going to get one camera for the rest of my life so don’t want to put that much money out and find out it was the wrong camera. Can you help in any way? I would greatly appreciate it and look forward to being a member now. Blessings

Welcome to the Hog.

Budget, types of images you like to do, any limits on size, weight etc?

My home town is in Western Kentucky, I have been in So California since 68.

I don't know if there is a wrong decision. There are a few basic necessities and the rest is "bells and whistles". If you move up to a full frame, you may be looking at some new lenses. Nothing wrong with that, just be prepared.
Ask questions as they come but some good starting points would be reading Bryon Peterson's "Understanding Exposure". It will give you a good foundation also, don't forget Youtube has tutorials you can watch until your eyes bleed.
Welcome.

Welcome to the forum.

Good luck with your decision!
(To me, cameras are like cars, an individual volition, depending on needs and desires.)

Welcome to the forums.
What is your budget for the camera, including lenses (especially for wildlife)?

Welcome aboard Ron. Have fun. You asked a great question. What budget do you have and do you want to stay with Canon?

Welcome aboard.

I just went through that very process. I bought an XSi in 2008. It never seemed to be tack sharp and I finally figured out why. But there was no easy cure, and I had told myself in 2008 that I would up grade when the megapixel count had doubled.

So many people praised the 80D and it fit my budget. Then all the hype over the new EOS R, I had to look. Expensive! But Ken Rockwell's review got me to thinking, it looked interesting. So, I went to Canon's site and looked up the features and specifications. There was way more than I even understood. Then the 90D appeared with a lot of new technology, but not overly complicated. Then the RP arrives. I understand this camera. Technology and bells n whistles about the same as the 90D, but full frame. Then Canon knocked off $300 and threw in a free lens adapter (another $100 off). When it arrived I discovered a whole slew of features I had missed, like live leveling, live histogram, 5 customizable info screens, works with my cell phone, on and on.

One thing I have, on my laptop, I created a database of camera bodies and lenses so that I could compare specifications. All the information came directly from Canon's website. It lets me compare details at a glance without having to try to remember it all.

If you have questions about the RP feel free to send me a PM. I am also a retired teacher.
