I'm troubled by your "temporary final image", not the image itself but the wording.

A couple years ago our local high school seniors had to perform a certain number of hours of "mandatory voluntary service". Apparently they didn't see any problem with that.

Shall we say final until possible further developments?

So I tried following some of the suggestions I received. And this is what I've come up with. Mike, thanks for the suggestion to darken that lighter hill where it meets the cloud. FotoArtist, I tried to bring up a bit more in the cloud. I got a little bit. And to Sony, sorry, flipping the image conflicts with my journalistic mind, but I did crop it a little. I didn't want to lose the boulder lower right, but I decided there wasn't anything on the left side I couldn't live without. I tried a 4x5, but that cropped too much, so this comes out a weird size. But it did move the trees a bit.
So I tried following some of the suggestions I rec... (show quote)
The extra bit of cloud detail is a nice addition, as is the darkening of top of hill.

Re flipping: I tend to prefer any empty space to be on the left, so in this case I am more comfortable with your original over Sony's demo. This scene looks similar to a section of the Yakima River Canyon Rd (which has been closed for two days because of wildfire ). For me the entire composition is the story, so I never really noticed the trees as being centered.

Again, thank you Kathy for sharing your journey - virtual and real - with us!

Thanks, Linda. I appreciate your comments and value your opinions. I've never been along the Yakima River. This is the Weiser River - it's southwestern Idaho and very close to the Washington border.

So, the modified picture from AzPicLady is OK but mine isn't?

I'm not sure how to answer you here - except to say yours is yours and mine is mine.

AzPicLady is the OP. She is learning Nik Silver Efex and posted her edited image based on feedback and suggestions from others.

To recap:

- UHH guidelines: "Please do not edit and re-upload other people's pictures without their explicit permission."

- We tried doing differently for PP Forum last year, but circumstances prompted my changing back to the forum-wide rule. Please pm me if you'd like to chat further about that.

- Some members have notes in their signatures that invite editing at all times. Others might request editing in the opening of a specific topic. The best practice for respondents is to receive permission in advance from the OP if neither of those are present.

Many thanks!
