Contrary to myths, David Troy Somerville (original lead singer of The Diamonds) is not Tom Hanks father.
His father had nothing to do with the group. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born in Concord, CA. on July 9, 1956. His father, Amos Mefford Hanks (1924-1992) was an Itinerant Cook and his mother, Janet Marylyn Hanks (nee Frager [changed from Fraga] 1932-2016) was a hospital worker. I will admit that the resemblance is there, but Somerville was from Canada. Regardless, The Diamonds were one of the great groups of the 1950's into the early 1960's.
