My bad. I am usually the one who does the fact checking in my group. Now I have to go back to the friend who sent me this link and let him know that I blew it. He'll be thrilled that my usual cynicism let me down.
Thanks Buckwheat!!

And who says that Snopes is the fact checker of the universe. Isn't that the site funded by George Soros?

With all the information we have about Tom Hanks it seems that something like this would have come out sooner if it were true. “Forrest Gump” had something 50s & 60s music and Tom did a movie about a 50s group; ideal times to make the connection if it were true.

Enjoyed the vid. Thanks for posting. On the same site is clip of Elvis singing "Unchained Melody." He does a nice job, but the Bobby Hatfield version is the one I love. Some great memories of dancing with my gf on leave at home before going to Vietnam. True love never dies, hers was just transferred to someone more available. Oh well...

THIS WILL PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE :-)
About Tom Hanks Father:
If you were alive in 1957, and old enough to enjoy Rock and Roll, you will probably remember the group
"The Diamonds" who had just launched their super hit "Little Darlin'".
For you that are too young to remember - it was a time when the performers were happy, enjoying
themselves, respecting their fans, dressed appropriately, and their lyrics could be understood.
They did not feel obligated to scream, practically eat the microphone, mumble inaudible lyrics, or trash
the set.

In 1957, The Diamonds had a hit with "Little Darlin'". 47 years later, they were requested to perform at
Atlantic City.

This link leads to both performances.
Watch the first one, then the 'new' one 47 years later.

Though you can see a resemblance, Tom Hanks' father is better looking than Tom ... and even better
looking with age. In the linked videos, Tom Hanks' father is the lead singer on the left. He still has it!
Hope you enjoy.

47 years apart and the same performance, both identical. (if the direct link fails, copy and paste to your
favourite browser)

I apologise for the fake news, but thank you for all the appreciative comments about the video clips. Those revival shows commissioned by NPR/PBS are so cool to us old timers who can remember the original versions.

Here is a bit of true trivia.
David Somerville, the lead singer for the Diamonds was also one of the Four Preps.
26 Miles Across the Sea/Big Man from the same PBS Show.

Brilliant - I must forward these links to my original informant. The comment about Tom Hanks was one of his more believable pieces of misinformation, which is why I missed the error. His habit of sending quite obviously false stories in the past was such that I was lulled into a false sense of security - the total opposite of the boy who cried wolf.
