I don't know, but there was a ranch house on down the lane. Indigenous people who built Chaco carried timbers for miles.

The roof timbers aren't finished lumber, but just logs. However, the lintel above the entrance, and maybe the ridge beam, are finished (squared off). It's fascinating (to me) just how much physical labor went into that humble dwelling.

The lintels have to fit, so they take work. And the ridge beam, where the timbers join require some fitting. I recall the original barn on my farm - everything fit together so well, they didn't even use pegs in some fittings.

Kathy, neat collection of old building in various stages of decal. That last one looks like it has newer windows. Maybe it is a keeper.

Thanks, Carol. The last one is a tourist stop on a very untraveled highway, so work has been done to it. I don't know that the windows are "new," but they have been carefully maintained.

This is a collection of old buildings I found on my recent trip to the Palouse region of Washington. I had been told there were some nice old barns in that area, but frankly I found most of these just gallavanting along the 2-lane roads! Enjoy.

As always, your comments are welcome.

Nice set. When I saw that first one I thought I was back in Connemara.
