Excellent set Joe.
Thank you very much Jim! Joe
Thanks for sharing your wonderful series of photos in both post, weberwest...where do they get the water, reclaimed? Desalination? Aquifers or all the above. I imagine all the tradesmen and service personnel have a hard time paying for the basics here unless assistance is provided.

Thanks for your kind comment Jim and the interesting question - it should actually be a very obvious question but I never thought about it, dah? I was going to say that they "pull it out of the air" - but decided to be a bit more intelligent, so I googled for the answer. Here is what I found:
"There are two sources of water in UAE: Desalinated seawater and groundwater. While groundwater is used for agriculture in Al Ain and Liwa, drinking water is provided entirely from desalinated seawater across the Emirate." --- Al Ain is a town and Liwa is a region in the interior.
My first inclination: pulling it out of the air, is however not that frivolous: As you will read in my post tomorrow covering the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, they do in fact use the condensed water from the air conditioners to water the grass in their park ... and I do remember when we lived in Hong Kong in the 80's, we did have a whole bunch of de-humidifiers and created many buckets full of water every day!
On the tradesmen and workers: These are basically 100% imported laborers from Asia, mainly India, Pakistan, Philippines, etc. Apparently their working conditions are not very good, but I would assume that it includes some kind of basic lodging and food.
Good tour, Joe, certainly not what usually comes to mind when you say Arabia.

Thank you Mike - you are right, the Emirates and the other gulf states are (now) definitely at a different level.
A fascinating set of incredible buildings! I must confess that they may be just a little TOO modern for me.
Incredible buildings and lovely images.
Dave.
Nice work on the pp... the transformations are done well...
Interesting place.
Some incredible architecture well captured!
Beautiful images - well done!
Your photos are really nice. I'm not much of a city gal, but these buildings are interesting and creative. I like the keyboard one.
