It would be wonderful if the Russians have developed an effective and safe vaccine. BUT there are a lot of assumptions that have to be dealt with. First that it is safe and effective; second that Russia will share it with the rest of the world; third that some other countries will trust Russia enough to voluntarily use it for their populations and fourth that the final outcome of success or failure will be readily apparent given the fate of hydroxychloroquine, a drug that has a 50+ year history of safe use for the general population, is now so foggy that it's efficacy is seriously challenged by some states and not others.
That is the purpose of third stage testing to determine all of these factors under controlled conditions so that decisions for use can be made with recognized confidence. What Russia will do is use the world for third stage testing with no good way to measure any of the factors studied in real stage 3 testing. Sounds like a recipe for chaos whether the vaccine is effective or not.

Injecting into millions of Russians will fairly quickly reveal if it is safe and effective. If it is, then they are ahead of the curve. If it is safe and not effective there was no harm. If it is not safe, it will be a big black eye for them. But we may never know the negatives if they do develop. The government will certainly cover it up.
They so far have refused to release any data at all.

When our vaccine comes out, I just hope y'all take the shot so I can see if it's safe and effective before I take it. 😉
