Apologies if this is off topic, but seems to be the best fit.

A while back, I was "fussed at" for adding a critique in a few Gallery images. I finally found the "Critique" section, but it is basically hidden from the standard "create a topic" view. Here is my Screen shot of what I see from your page, with no real mention of some of the other topic areas, even in the "links". Might it be possible to list ALL of the topic areas so fairly new people such as myself can see them? I think it would be a significant help in avoiding confusion and off topic posts. Here is the image and thanks for the consideration:

Mark, it's pretty simple. Click on the Home link at the top of the page. That will provide you a page with all of your subscribed sections. At the bottom of the 'home' page is a link to All Sections. Then you can peruse and select the section to which you wish to subscribe. The subscribe/unsubscribe link is at the top of the particular section page next to the sections title.

OK... but why don't you list them here, so that if someone wants to make a new post in a particular topic, it is quite easily done? Really makes no sense to me to have to peruse when you have a drop-down menu for just this purpose. Or make it so that within the drop down, the viewer has the ability to add the topics they are most interested in?

Mark, you're going to be fighting an uphill battle. Since the ability to see all of the sections and subscribe to the ones of particular interest is available, admin is not going to change or customize things just for the sake of it.

Not to be nasty, it is the responsibility of the new member to explore and learn the site. Bring your own spoon!

If you are interest in a topic, subscribe to it and it will show in your pull-down list.
Probably done this way so the pull-down list doesn't have a hundred options.
If one is not interested in a particular topic (not subscribed), why have it in your option list?

Great! Problem solved! Thanks so much for your help and not lecturing me. I totally agree, and is why I asked specifically if it could be customized by the user. Thanks once again.

I think you have raised a valid issue, Mark. Many newcomers to UHH are surprised when someone points out that there are other sections besides "Main". They're just not that accessible.

You click on Newest topics and only posts to your subscribed sub forums show. You set to put things you comment on to "Watched Topics" or if you want to watch but not comment you have Watch and Bookmark at the upper left above a thread when you open it.

They could add "All Topics Subscribe Here" up at the top of the opening page but that thing already goes nearly half way down my screen when I open UHH. They could label "Help" as "Help-how to use this site".

As to getting fussed at in Gallery - well some people would fuss just to fuss or they don't like your breathing pattern. Right in my signature line I tell people to critique, modify etc Just as long as they don't steal my images and use or sell them. I have several lawyers as friends who could use the business but my wallet and bank account don't want to pay their rates unless I have to.

Bob, the need to do that changed several years ago; there is a direct link to "all sections" at the bottom of every UHH page.

A tip relating to the OP: When you are inside your section of interest, the "Create new topic" button directly above daily postings (and any pinned topics) creates a new topic within that specific section; there's no list.

Subscribing to volunteer-moderated sections of interest gives several benefits, as already mentioned in this thread. For those who limit their UHH viewing to a sampling of yesterday's news via the Daily Digest (the email), subscribing to sections outside of the original eight offers you a much broader experience.

Once you are logged in, you'll see those new sections in your digest - if any topics were posted there the previous day. Volunteer-moderated sections get five spots in the digest. Photo Gallery has 35 slots, but there can be 60 to 100 topics posted to Photo Gallery in a 24-hour period. Using "newest topics" link at the top of any UHH page combines all postings of your subscriptions into a single list and is seen in real time, newest first.

Being inside a section simply puts that section as default (first) for Create New Topic, I still get the list pull-down option.

Not from the button I showed in my screenprint. See the button directly above the Guidelines stickied doc in PP Forum (on the same line as subscribe/unsubscribe): https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-116-1.html

However, I just realized that you don't see that button unless you're outside a specific topic but inside the section you want. So, probably for most people most of the time, your way is much, much easier 😀
