Hi ,I'm Marsha from West Virginia . I've been on Ugly hedgehog for awhile but never posted until now . I have a Nikon D7200 and I use it mainly for wildlife,my grandchildren and their sporting events . My question is the Shutter count is 176,550 . It is still working great .should I be looking at replacing the camera ? The manufacturer guarantee is shutter count of 150,000 . I know one day it will just stop.

It's really an economics and needs situation.

If it still meets your needs and a replacement would strain the budget keep going.

If you can afford a new body and want a new body, make this tour backup and please yourself with a new DSLR.

I have a KODAK INSTAMATIC 107, a YASHICA G TLR, a MAMIYA 645, a NIKON F ... actually three of them, a NIKON F2 PHOTOMIC, a NIKON FM, a NIKON F3, a NIKON N8008s, a NIKON F4s, a NIKON D50 and a NIKON D7200 and enough glass to build a greenhouse.

All were at some point a main body and all at some point became backups and all eventually became shelf knick knacks. In combination I'd estimate 1,000,000+ clicks and they all still work.

If it is affordable, keep them. As you get older they bring back memories.

By the way, West Virginia is beautiful country. I was raised in southeastern Kentucky and there is so much beauty in that area.

I agree with the use it till it drops advise with one exception. If you have some major shoots like weddings and things that are once in a life time events then I would consider upgrading or replacing it. One thing to consider, it can be sold or traded now but if it breaks, the value in most cases drops to nothing! Keep shooting, we have a lot of things to document here in the mountain state!

As you have seen the general consensus here is to keep using the camera till it fails. You could replace the shutter when that happens, most probably around $300 but it would be better to invest in a good used one or a refurb.
If not broken don't fix it. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome.

A couple of years ago, I had a high-shutter-count 7100 that I was quite happy using around California. Then a safari trip to Africa was in the offing. I imagined myself sitting in a safari vehicle trying to take pictures of wildlife with an iPhone. So I bought a 7200 to take on the trip with the 7100 as a backup body. Risk assessments can change depending on the circumstances. (Of course both still work well.)

My advice is to keep on shooting. In the meantime keep an eye out for another 7200 (if you want to continue with it) or a 7500 at a good price with low shutter count. It’s ok to wait until yours gives out but then you won’t have a lot of time to shop around unless you can do without the camera indefinitely. Good luck and welcome.
edit....I bought the 7500 while I had the 7000. Now I shoot with both.

If you are really comfortable with the camera body & using it , you might check with B&H, Adorama, MPB or KEH for a used model identical yours. The companies will provide a shutter count of what they are selling & typically will have varying degrees of functionality... i.e. parts only, body scratches, or used as demo only, or factory refurbished....& priced accordingly

I would keep it till it dies.-----Mirrorless is here and the 7200 is a great camera. You have to seriously think about the wave of the future.

I have invested in a good Phone Camera so I can get by without a camera until I find another real camera. Phone camera's are getting so good that some pro's are using them for some situations. Wildlife is really one of the things that you will be lacking, but for a lot of things these phone's are incredible. I hated to get a good phone camera but they are so good that it is hard to ignore the incredible software in these little devices.

If you like the camera and it helps you do whatever you want, either use it until you can't or until it gives up the cost and isn't cost effective to repair. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

I have yet to ask the Hogs to spend my money! What ever the reason or the solution that I need to find I found it by observation. Some chums have ask my opinion, and I always preface it by stating it is an opinion and nothing more. Something's make sense and other do not.

I see the value of older gear. A chum would the fresh out gear and give me the next newest, thus my call sign Gifted One. I have purchased two bodies with all my dig-shooting, a FF & small mirror-less.

I have had some health issues and will return to the most basic.

As above if it ain't broke-----. Remember that you can get a new camera delivered is a few days. So unless you have a major event , where a camera is a must, there is no reason to not keep keep it and use it untill it dies. Of course the "high" shutter count is a perfect excuse for a new camera

Option 1: If you're happy with the 7200, why not get a second one. You are already started on your lens collection.

Option 2: Another thought, since it is a crop camera, why not consider a D500. It's the flagship of the DX format. I don't know what your photographic interests are but this camera will accommodate your current needs and future interests hands down. I liked my D500 so much I got a second body. So, now I have my first love, a D7000 and two D500s.

Oh, you will need a flash for the 500 as it doesn't have an onboard flash. I already had a SB800 so no problem.

Good luck and have fun drooling over the choices, Alan

I saw a D810 on ebay sell for over $500 with an astonishing 750,000 clicks last winter. I think waiting it out is a good idea. If it starts acting up you could find a good used for a reasonable amount. I just got a 7200 with 400 clicks for under $600.
